Let's Breathe!
β
Welcome friend! Thanks for stopping by!
β
Here's a seemingly random question for you: Have you ever stopped to think about how many times a day you breathe?
β
You know, that thing you do through your nose or mouth, all day every day without giving it much thought?
β
According to the American Lung Association, the average person on the planet breathes in and out about 20,000 times in any given day (for you detail-oriented people... or if you just likes fun facts... that is 12 to 20 breaths per minute for the average adult!)
β
So why am I bringing this up? Well, besides the fact that I am in total awe of this free gift from God that literally cannot live without, it is also a great way to start a conversation about OXYGEN and why it is so important for not only our lungs and life but for the healthy function of the very mitochondria within our cells. To learn more about that, check out THIS VIDEO!
β
What's more, conscious breathing - i.e. using the breath as a modality for brain health, immune improvement, better circulation, and overall better health - is such an easy way to dip one's toe into a more healthy lifestyle that it is almost a no brainer.
β
This month, it is all about oxygen and how to get more if it into your lungs for better all around health, a clearer mind, and a better mood.
β
Be sure to check out THIS VIDEO for three easy tips on how to get more oxygen into your body and brain every day! Spoiler alert: one of the tips has to do with...you guessed it...breathing!
β
Blessings my friends! Be sure to take some time this week to BREATHE IN DEEP and we will see you on the road!

Now You Try It:
β
The next time you are in a stressful situation, whether it is an argument with someone, rush hour traffic, or rushing to make an appointment on time, I encourage you to STOP for just one second and try this:
β
#1 take a deep breath in and then slowly exhale out, deliberately making your exhale longer than your inhale. Do this at least two times.
β
#2 Ask internally: What am I feeling emotionally? What is my body experiencing right now? You can also rate your stress level, where "0" is no stress and "10" is a panic attack.
β
#3 Allow God "in" to be your comforter and guide, if that feels right to you. Some, as I do, call our Creator "True Family."
β
A good scripture help you focus and keep going with your breathing is Job 33:4 when Job's friend Elihu says βthe Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.β
β
#4 Keep up with the breathing pattern until you feel that your stress level has gone down a little (you can rate yourself again). As soon as it does, congratulations! This means that stress hormones have cooled as well, and so has inflammation and your risk for disease.
β
(It also means that your ability to make creative, insightful, solution-oriented decisions has come back online as well!)
β
Practicing conscious breathing in the middle of a stressful encounter is not easy. It takes practice and lots of patience with ourselves (and with others). We can learn from the example of our savior, however, as well as other people in our lives who may display more patience, kindness, compassion, and wisdom than ourselves. Over time, we will get there - and our actions in tough situations will become blessings that others can learn from too!
