Can God's Word Really Heal Our Bodies?
โ
Hello friend!
โ
Last Saturday I had an amazing experience. I was set to facilitate a wonderful group in some sharing and a little teaching about health topics later that day, yet it was the morning of and I still had no idea what I was going to talk about! Yikes!
โ
Instead of totally panicking and rushing to do "more research" (my usual MO, admittedly...), I decided to listen in to what True Family had to say.
โ
Lord, what do I do here? What if I can't come up with anything? Help!
โ
After walking, stretching, walking some more...this took about 20 minutes because sometimes I just have to MOVE to calm down that monkey mind...I finally was in a space to actually HEAR what True Family had to say.
โ
"Rest and trust in us. I [True Jesus] will show you!" I heard. I also saw him smile...in a mischievous yet good-natured kind of way.
โ
Oh, how True Family loves to teach us ...a lot of times by showing, not telling directly.
โ
As hard as it was to follow this advice, I did it, or at least I tried. I put down my notepad and closed all the dozens of tabs I had open on my computer (closing the tabs was really hard to do).
โ
Then I went about my morning and did the usual things...took a sauna, had breakfast, cleaned up my room and Ms D's litter box... (Ms D really appreciated the last thing since it had been a while...)
โ
About an hour and a half later, it was time for Community Connection. This is a public Zoom-based gathering that is held every Saturday and facilitated by Adena Hodges and the leadership team at Transformations Community, an organization dedicated to helping people who are on a faith-based trauma-healing journey. โ
Before the "official" start of the meeting, normally whoever wants to gathers together on the Zoom a few minutes early to pray. I felt called to be on early that day, so I joined in. About five minutes into the prayer time, someone said "Wow, I feel really warm as I am praying."
โ
That piqued my interest for some reason...
โ
Warmth in the body while praying? What is that all about? I thought. This question led me to do a quick online search about warmth in scripture. Some scriptures didn't land quite right in my spirit, but two absolutely did! They were:
โ
"Love each other with a warm love that comes from the heart. After all, you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth. As a result you have a sincere love for each other." - 1 Peter 1:22 GWT
โ
"Above all, love each other warmly, because love covers many sins." - Peter 4:8 GWT
โ
I thought it was interesting that the two scriptures that really resonated with me that had to do with "warmth" had metaphoric connections to not only God's love but also the love that we can, potentially, feel for one another as brothers and sisters in Christ and maybe even as a community as a whole.
โ
Of course, we cannot consistently feel this warmth (kindness, compassion, and care) towards others unless we are also kind to ourselves. This led me to think about all the ways that we can care for ourselves in our physical bodies and having to do with our emotions as well (what I call "self-soothing").
โ
Then I realized that a lot the kind things we can do to help our bodies "regulate and rebalance" actually have to do with temperature regulation as well.
โ
THEN I remembered another friend's sincere request a few days prior to discuss the health benefits of sauna and how another friend just the day before was talking about how she woke up feeling really cold even though the temp in her bedroom was actually very temperate.
โ
It appeared that I had found my topic for later that day! What was so cool was that it had come about through a mixture of questioning, relaxing in my own body, observance and most of all LISTENING to the True Family and what was on their heart to share with and through the people they so deeply care about!
โ
This inquiry not only brought up some key points for physical health - the importance of temperature regulation for healthy functioning in the body and also the intimate connection between body temp and the nervous system - but also the deeper and often very personal teachings that are always available through scripture.
โ
Can God's Word really heal our bodies? In my experience, it's a big "thumbs up" on that one!
โ
Blessings my friend and we will see you on the road,
โ

Now You Try It:
โ
Do you have a question about your health? Sometime this week, I encourage you to get into a quiet space to connect with God. Once you feel you are calm, ask the question and try as best you can to be in an open frame of mind to listen and receive from True Family.
You may be surprised by the answer you receive. Be sure to write down what you hear in a journal or notebook to ponder later as well.
โ
PS I would love to hear from you about your experience so be sure to drop me a line HERE!
โ
Also...
โ
Here are the slides that I shared with the group last Saturday about Self-Soothing, Temperature, and Heat Shock Proteins (which are produced when we sweat, like when we take a sauna, and can help lower inflammation!). I hope they come in handy for you as well!
